Afghanistan: Drug-free by 2011

On a matter of increasing concern to U.S. authorities, Karzai asserted that Afghanistan is making progress in limiting the cultivation of opium poppies, a crop that he said has been "giving us a bad name." He said poppy production in three provinces has been reduced by 80 percent. "If this trend continues, we'll hopefully have no poppies in Afghanistan in another five or six years," he said.
