Invasion of the Isolationists

Nothing really new in Fukuyama's op-ed today and of course, no actual discussion of "what's the current goal" in the Mess-o-potamia, but some nice condemnation for the war-mongers:
There was nothing inevitable about this. There is everything to be regretted about it.

How very Christian

``I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it,'' Pat Robertson said of Chavez. "This is a dangerous enemy to our south controlling a huge pool of oil...We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, ya know, strong-arm dictator."
Yeah, see the $200 billion part comes after you take out Mr. Strong-arm
...now a new Cuban-Venezuelan alliance, bankrolled by oil profits, threatens to create a block of anti-American states across Latin America
And the pro-American Latin American states are?

Total idiot

Bush said the only acceptable outcome is "total victory over the terrorists and their hateful ideology." He did not define what he meant by total victory.

That's because it means killing every terrorist everywhere, which could be accomplished right after every drug is eradicated from the face of the earth and monkeys proceed to fly out of my butt.

Kill and Kill again

SUSSEX, Va. -- A judge in Virginia has ordered convicted sniper John Muhammad to be moved from Virginia's death row to Maryland for his second trial in the 2002 sniper shooting spree in the Washington area.
...
If convicted in Maryland, Muhammad could get another death sentence. Malvo faces six additional life sentences.

So um what's the point of two death sentences?

Be more pushy next time

They claimed they were heading to a sales conference of Amway, the household goods manufacturer. But, says Wagers, "They didn't strike me as the Amway type, because, to be honest, they weren't very pushy about their product. And I've dealt with (Amway salespeople) before. So that was my only real suspicion.
-- Mike Wagers, the taxi driver who escorted the fugitives to their capture

Change that tune

"The United States and its allies did not provoke the terrorists; the terrorists attacked America," Donald Rumsfeld 8/4/2005

There are some who feel like that, you know, the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is bring them on. We got the force necessary to deal with the security situation. George W. Bush 7/2/2003

Rock you like a hurricane

Before the war in Iraq began, the CIA recruited and trained an Iraqi paramilitary group, code-named the Scorpions, to foment rebellion, conduct sabotage, and help CIA paramilitaries who entered Baghdad and other cities target buildings and individuals, according to three current and former intelligence officials with knowledge of the unit. - Washington Post 8/3/2005

Wow, great idea, since that worked so well in Afghanistan, Vietnam, and Colombia. They sure are persistent in the face of overwhelming hypocrisy.

Ignoreland

They say the truth is hard to swallow, but W is just convinced that Palmiero isn't on the 'roids and intelligent design is somehow intelligent. While some appreciate subcomandante Bush's "simple folksy style", "massacre of diction", and "IQ of a grapefruit", this whole thing is getting just a bit absurd. We have a US president that says "students should be exposed to both creationism and evolution." Does that mean students should bring a chemistry set to church?
Students should be exposed to alternatives to Evolution, like Creationism.

This is totally untrue. When in a scientific forum, religious opinion means literally nothing. Evolution isn't "just a theory," it is observed fact. Organisms have been observed to adapt themselves to better survive in their environment. Cockroaches have adapted to certain pesticides, and virii mutate to become resistant to vaccines and antibiotics. This claim is tantamount to saying that students should be taught "alternatives to gravity," or "alternatives to the Theory of Relativity." Evolution is simply how things happen in nature.
