Quagmire II: The Vital Security Rationale
"Like most Americans, I see the images of violence and bloodshed. Every picture is horrifying, and the suffering is real," he said. "It is worth it, and it is vital to the future security of our country. - Bush 6/29/2005
It has not been easy--far from it. During the past 4½ years, it has been my fate and my responsibility to be Commander in Chief. I have lived---daily and nightly--with the cost of this war. I know the pain that it has inflicted. I know, perhaps better than anyone, the misgivings that it has aroused.
Throughout this entire, long period, I have been sustained by a single principle: that what we are doing now, in Vietnam, is vital not only to the security of Southeast Asia, but it is vital to the security of every American. - LBJ 3/31/1968

The plot thickens
A lawyer representing fired CIA officer Mary O. McCarthy said yesterday that his client did not leak any classified information and did not disclose to Washington Post reporter Dana Priest the existence of secret CIA-run prisons in Eastern Europe for suspected terrorists.Just a patsy?

Queen of the infidels
Nothing says progress in Iraq like beauty contest participation. Unfortunately the first four winners all resigned due to fear of repraisals from religous extremists. That means you're the winner, number five, now get to hiding!

How soon is now?
How long will the U.S. remain in Iraq?
In terms of how long we'll be there: as long as necessary, and not one day more. - Bush 4/13/2004Oh I forgot about the embassy, the largest U.S. embassy IN HISTORY. I guess necessary means forever...
Flashback: Force as a last resort and Saddam/Al Qaeda revisionist history
In this speech to the AEI over three years ago, Bush speaks of using force in Iraq as a last resort
If war is forced upon us by Iraq's refusal to disarm, we will meet an enemy who hides his military forces behind civilians, who has terrible weapons, who is capable of any crime.and then force as inevitable
Much is asked of America in this year 2003. The work ahead is demanding. It will be difficult to help freedom take hold in a country that has known three decades of dictatorship, secret police, internal divisions and war.He also uses the word "peace" 20 times.
Later at the 5/4/2003 infamous "Mission Accomplished" speech, he promised
You see, the al Qaeda no longer have a ally in the regime in Iraq.Conveniently though a new Iraqi ally was quickly found in Zarqawi.

Not even truthiness
On his decision to declassify intelligence, Bush said
"I thought it was important for people to get a better sense of what I was saying in my speeches," Bush said, answering a question from an audience member at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies in Washington. "And I felt I could do so without jeopardizing ongoing intelligence matters. So I wanted people to see the truth," he said. "And I thought it made sense for people to see the truth."Of course we didn't see anything, what we heard was not only the subject of much skepticism at the time, it was fully discredited shortly after. Like we need more evidence that the man draws no distinction between fact and belief.

GUILTY!
Everybody's favorite security president personally authorized Scooter to disclose classified information in order to smear a political opponent. Great, feel safer now?
Libby was said to have testified that such presidential authorization to disclose classified information was "unique in his recollection," the court papers further said.Yet his lawyers seek the release of hundreds of highly classified PDBs in order to prove that Libby had so much on his mind that he couldn't recall where he got the info that Plame was an agent. I'd say his memory is working just fine.
The White House had no immediate reaction to the court filing.Cool, it'll be fun to see just how in the f*ck they're gonna spin this revelation.
