And now a fourth year

"The level of activity that we see today from a military standpoint, I think, will clearly decline. I think they're in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency." - Dick Cheney 6/20/2005

    March madness

This week's episode of "choose your outrage" welcomes the following contestants:

  • The largest oil spill to occur on the tundra of Alaska's North Slope has deposited up to 267,000 gallons of thick crude...

  • Largest airborne assault in Iraq since the beginning of the war...

  • Bush administration renews “preemptive war” strategy... (so far, so good!)

  • Bush asserts Iran behind some IED manufacture, General Pace then clarifies that no proof exists

  • Democratic infighting distracts from party message... (they have one?)

  • NYC cops "proactively" arrested demonstrators...

  • Military Jailing Vietnam War Resisters 40 Years After They Refused to Serve

    and the winner is:
Kitten stomping video sparks outrage in China

Beijing - A Chinese woman has publicly apologised after she infuriated animal lovers by stomping a kitten to death on video, state media said yesterday.

Wang Jue, a nurse from northeast China's Heilongjiang province, said she was persuaded into performing for the bizarre video after she had suffered a divorce.

The film was later posted on the internet and could be downloaded for free, the Shanghai Daily reported. It was meant as an advertisement for a website selling videos of "small animals being stomped to death by provocative women".

The video created an uproar and the website was closed. Wang was fired from her job. - Sapa-AFP
